The Boosting Inclusive Growth for Zanzibar (BIG-Z) Project is a flagship development initiative financed by the World Bank and implemented by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar. It focuses on improving infrastructure, digital transformation, and institutional capacity to foster inclusive growth across the islands.
BIG-Z targets urban and peri-urban areas with rapid population growth, especially underserved communities in Unguja and Pemba. Specific zones like Chumbuni, Kijichi, and Mombasa Shehia are among the areas benefitting from infrastructure upgrades and service improvements.
The project has four key components:
