Expected Impact
The project will directly benefit over 230,000 people across urban and peri‑urban Zanzibar. Improvements will include enhanced mobility, better drainage systems, safer public spaces, improved housing, and expanded digital access. The project also aims to boost tourism, promote small business growth, and increase climate resilience in vulnerable communities.
Implementation Approach
BIG‑Z is being implemented through a coordinated, area‑based approach that integrates infrastructure development, community upgrading, and institutional strengthening. The project uses modern planning tools, stakeholder consultations, and data‑driven decision‑making to ensure sustainable outcomes. Partnerships with local governments, communities, and development partners are central to its success.
